Bernd Krottmayer will replace Emilio Titos at the helm of Mercedes Vitoria

The announcement coincides with the downward revision of Mercedes Vitoria’s production forecasts for this year.

The German Bernd Krottmayer will assume the April 1, 2023 the position of CEO of Mercedes Vitoria, replacing Emilio Titos, who retires in January after more than 40 years at the helm of the largest company in the Basque Country, with 4,800 direct workers.

Krottmayer graduated from Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Stuttgart and in 2002 he joined the Mercedes Benz Group, where he held different management positions in the logistics and production areas until 2010, the automotive company reported in a note.

In 2011 he was appointed CEO of the Romanian company Star Transmission and Star Assembly, both of the Mercedes Benz group. Six years later he was appointed assembly manager at the Sindelfingen (Germany) plant and from January 2021 until now he is production manager for gross assembly, painting and maintenance at the same passenger car plant.

The announcement of his arrival in Vitoria-Gasteiz coincides with the downward revision of Mercedes Vitoria production forecasts for this year up to 141,781 vans due to the significant volume of stocks that the plant has and the difficulty in transporting vehicles in seaports.

It also matches the renewal of the works councilnow led by the unions that opposed the collective agreementalthough the agreement was later ratified by the workers in a referendum.

That “social peace” in the company was essential to attract an investment of 1,200 million to Vitoria by the German multinational, which will allow the Álava factory to double its current production.
