A worker has died in a non-traumatic accident at work in Iruraiz-Gauna (Álava), when he was carrying out construction work in a chalet. The LAB union has reported that the accident occurred last Wednesday, December 7.

The worker was 56 years old. After feeling unwell, he notified the health services, who could not do anything to prevent his death.

LAB has transferred its solidarity and support to his family and colleagues, and has denounced that in the construction sector “the subcontracting chain is abused”. According to the union, this “multiplies” risk situations because it makes it more difficult to control compliance with regulations on occupational safety.

“This is the result of a model that prioritizes the benefit of companies over the precariousness of workers, and that precariousness kills,” said LAB.

According to union data, this is the 69th worker who has died in the Basque Country so far this year. Therefore, they have already been more than in 2021.
