Maritime police rescued 50 migrants in three boats in the Mediterranean

The Maritime Police, on a mission in the Mediterranean as part of Operation Themis by the European agency FRONTEX, received an alert on Monday morning about the presence of two ships with migrants on board, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) explained. .), in a press release.

“On arrival at the scene, the Maritime Police intercepted two boats with 23 men, two women and three children, who showed signs of dehydration and fatigue and without life jackets”, who were rescued to the port of Pantelleria, where they were waiting for the Italian authorities,” explained AMN .

In the afternoon, maritime police units received information about another migrant boat off the coast of Pantelleria, which launched an operation that resulted in the rescue of 22 more people, including three women and nine children, also taken to Pantelleria, he stressed.
