A fire in an empty house led to the evacuation of residents of neighboring buildings in Porto

A fire in an empty house in Paranhos in Porto led to the evacuation of residents from nearby buildings on Monday evening, a civil protection source told Lusa.

A source from the Sub-Regional Command of the Porto Metropolitan Region said the fire had affected an empty apartment complex in Paranhos, adding that the fire had not reached neighboring houses.

However, for security purposes, the residents of these houses were evicted from their homes, he further elaborated.

The same source said there were no reports of casualties so far.

Fighting the fire, the alarm of which was announced at 23:30 on Monday, involved units of the firefighters of the Sapadores Porto Regiment and the volunteer firefighters of Porto.

By 00:45 a.m., the fire was believed to be under control, but operatives were still waiting for the city civil protection service to arrive to assess the damage, the same civil protection source said.

There are also members of the PSP and the Municipal Police of Porto.

According to the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection (ANEPC) website, 26 operators were on the scene at 00:50, supported by nine vehicles.
