The fire, which has raged since Monday in Pinjal do Norte, Carraceda de Anciaes, in the Bragança region, was believed to be under control around 5:00 pm, a source from Operational Command told Lusa.
According to data available on the website of the National Office of Emergency Situations and Civil Protection, by 19:30, 67 operators were still fighting the fire, supported by 22 pieces of equipment.
The fire, which broke out in the bush area at 3 p.m. Monday, kept “several hotspots, many of them dispersed and hard to reach” early Tuesday morning.
Also during the day on Tuesday, the couple, who were taken on Monday as a GNR precaution from the locality of Felgueira, also in the municipality of Carraceda de Anciaes, returned home, according to a security source. .
The couple, a man over 90 and a woman over 80, the only residents of the village, spent the night with relatives in Areias, in the same municipality, the source added.
The GNR group remains in the Felgeira area for prevention.
Traffic on the municipal road 630, between Pereiros and Codesais, also in the municipality of Carraceda de Anciaes, was restored in the afternoon after being interrupted in the morning.
