Hurricane Hillary weakens as it approaches the US coast, but could still cause ‘catastrophic’ flooding

Hurricane Hilary lost intensity as it approached the coast of Mexico, dropping to Category 1 (on a scale of 1 to 5), but could still cause “catastrophic” flooding, according to the US National Weather Service.

According to the latest information, the hurricane is heading towards the Baja California peninsula, in the southwest of the country, and continues to be considered dangerous, although it should already hit the region as a tropical storm.

The National Weather Center in Miami said in a warning this morning that the storm was about 30 miles (45 km) south of Punta Eugenia, Mexico and 385 miles (625 km) from San Diego, California. The maximum wind speed remained unchanged at around 135 km / h, and “rain showers” were recorded in the north of the peninsula.
