Doctors from the Azores, the Alentejo and the Algarve are on strike on 30 and 31 August.

According to a regional strike notice issued today by the Independent Union of Physicians (SIM), doctors working in the Azores, Alentejo and Algarve regions will strike on 30 and 31 August.

The document states the “complete stoppage and absence from the workplace” of doctors who “perform functions in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, in the Alentejo Regional Health Authority area and in the Regional Health Authority area. Administration of the Algarve.

The strike will last from 00:00 on August 30 to 24:00 on August 31.

The doctors’ fight “aims to force the Government to give an effective response to the union’s list of grievances” and also “aims to urgently stop the activities” of the negotiating table between the Government and the indigenous peoples.

The union structure is demanding “a proposal for a pay scale that restores careers to the accumulated losses due to the inflationary erosion of the last decade and that places the entire medical profession, including interns, with honor and justice on the single pay table of citizens.” service”.

Physicians’ unions and the government ended their fifth extraordinary meeting in Lisbon on August 10 without reaching an agreement on a revised salary scale, the main item on the list of demands brought to the negotiating table that began in 2022.
