IPMA has also placed over 90 councils in the districts of Faro, Santarém, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Lisbon, Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda, Porto, Aveiro, Viana do Castelo, Braga, Vila Real and Bragança at very high risk. .
Other municipalities in all areas of mainland Portugal are at high fire risk.
Due to weather conditions, the fire hazard will continue until at least Friday.
This risk, as defined by IPMA, has five levels, from reduced to maximum, and calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall over the past 24 hours.
With hot weather forecast for the coming days, the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Administration (ANEPC) warned on Sunday that bonfires and burns are prohibited on days of very high and maximum fire danger without prior permission. and communication.
Civil Protection also warned against the use of brush cutters, brush cutters and shredders and the use of fire for cooking in rural areas.
“The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority recommends an adequate behavior and attitude towards the situation of fire danger in rural areas, namely the adoption of the necessary preventive and preventive measures in accordance with applicable law and paying special attention to the evolution of fire danger during this period,” he stressed.
IPMA predicts temperatures will rise in the coming days, warning that the maximum could reach values close to 40 degrees.
Recalling the additional measures taken by the Directorate General of Health (DGS) due to rising temperatures, ANEPC stresses the importance of people increasing their water intake, applying sunscreen, wearing a hat and light-colored clothing, and choosing light and fresh clothing. nutrition. .
