According to a civil protection source, more than 100 operatives and seven aircraft are fighting a fire that rages on Tuesday afternoon in an area of shrubs and cork oaks in the municipality of Marvão (Portalegre district).
A source in Alto Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Defense Command told Lusa that the fire, which is burning in the Abegoa area in the parish of Santo António das Areias, was signaled at 15:55.
Lusa contacted the second commander of the Sub-Regional Command and Civil Protection of Alto Alentejo, João Vas, who reported that the fire had an active front.
The official also indicated that the work is taking place “in a favorable manner”, and are also acting on the ground to protect housing.
“There are many walls in this area, narrow roads, and this situation makes it very difficult for the operatives to move,” he added.
Lusa reported on the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection website at 5:12 p.m. that 106 operators fought the blaze, assisted by 28 vehicles and seven aircraft.
