A 70-year-old man was arrested by the Judicial Police (PJ) on suspicion of setting fire to the house he shared with his wife in Cambezes, Barcelos. The suspect is still charged with domestic violence.
The incident happened last Sunday. The fire alarm was received by the Viathodos Fire Department at 19:53. At the scene, investigators found smoke coming from the window, but the flames were not visible from outside. To get into the house and get to the fire that broke out in the bedroom, firefighters had to make their way through one of the doors. However, what caused the most oddity happened inside the house: all the rooms were locked and there were no people inside. Therefore, firefighters were forced to open access to extinguish the fire.
It was called GNR, but given the contours, it was called PJ. Evidence collected by inspectors has now led to the arrest of the pensioner, who will act “under constant domestic violence, for useless reasons and on purpose”. The house was uninhabitable.
