A man arrested at dawn on Friday for seriously injuring a police officer in Lisbon has been subjected to periodic weekly presentations and banned from nightclubs, PSP said this Sunday.
“In addition to the previous report, the Lisbon Metropolitan Public Security Police Department reports that the detainee, after being present at the Lisbon Criminal Investigation Court, was subjected to a measure of compulsion in the form of periodic (weekly) transfers to the police unit. He is also prohibited from visiting nightclubs near the place where he did the things described.
According to PSP, a police officer was seriously injured in the parish of Misericordia in the municipality of Lisbon after being attacked by a 21-year-old man with a broken glass bottle.
A man with no previous history of assault or serious crime is suspected of committing serious assault on the physical integrity of a police officer.
The detention came as a result of a “warning of a riot involving several actors who may have already attacked each other.”
At the scene, police witnessed a discussion between two men, “one of whom was holding a glass bottle, already broken and therefore more lethal, and following the other’s instructions with the clear intention of attacking him.”
According to the PSP command, one of the agents got between the two men and ended up with a “brutal attack on the shoulder blade.” The law enforcement officer received a “deep cut several centimeters long.”
Despite this, with the support of other agents, “the attacking police officer managed to immediately neutralize the aggressor by snatching the bottle from his hands and preventing him from making further aggressions,” the statement said.
The wounded policeman was taken to the San José hospital for surgery.
