The funeral of former Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was held privately at a cemetery in St. Petersburg, the Russian’s hometown.
“The parting took place in private. Everyone who wants to say goodbye can visit the Porokhovskoye cemetery,” the publication of the telegram of the communications agency of the former leader of the Russian mercenaries, which is quoted by Reuters, says.
At the request of the family, the ceremony will be held in private, according to the Russian press. The restraint of the event excludes a possible demonstration of support for the former head of the Wagner group, a critic of the Kremlin in the last years of his life.
Prigozhin died on August 23 when the plane he was flying in crashed. The Russian was responsible for organizing the rebellion towards Moscow in June.
Russian President Vladimir Putin did not attend the funeral ceremony as the Kremlin advanced on Tuesday.
