Taxpayers whose IRS is due on 2022 income must pay tax by this Thursday, and there is also the option to make that payment in installments.
According to the latest official data from the Treasury, released in June two days before the end of the IRS campaign, 883,600 IRS collection receipts had been issued so far, with a total of €1.354 million being asked to pay these taxpayers.
According to the rules, the deadline for paying this tax by taxpayers caught in default ends this Thursday.
In this situation are people whose withholding tax on their 2022 income was not enough to cover the tax they actually owed, or people who received tax-free income, such as rent.
However, the current regime provides that when it comes to IRS amounts up to €5,000, the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) will automatically provide an installment payment plan if the taxpayer does not make the payment on the scheduled date.
As in the case of the simplified installment payment scheme that the taxpayer may follow, also in these installment schemes “the payment of the first installment occurs before the end of the month following the creation of the AT plan, and the payment of subsequent installments until the end of the relevant month” .
The outstanding amount is divided into a maximum of 12 payments.
August 31 is also the deadline for AT to return the IRS to taxpayers who qualify for a refund.
