Ventura calls the housing an “example” that the government has “failed” young people.

Chegi President Andre Ventura, in a speech to young people urging them “not to be afraid” to defend the party’s ideas, said this Friday that housing construction is an example of how the government has “failed” new generations.

Under the motto “Quo Vadis Europa?” (“Where are you going to Europe?”, loosely translated), several dozen young people from Chega gathered this Friday in the Assembly Hall of the Republic in Lisbon for the opening of the third edition of the Party Summer. A political academy supported by its youth structure.

In a speech of about thirty minutes, which drew applause at various times, leader Chegi touched on various topics, using housing as an “example” of how the government has “let down” the youth.

Ventura mentioned the fact that some young people cannot rent a room in Lisbon or Porto for higher education, expressing regret that there are “cases in the capital of the country when a place in a room with six bunk beds” costs “250 euros” . .

“This is what António Costa has given to young people,” he said, criticizing the Prime Minister’s letter to the European Commission, reported on Friday by Expresso, in which he suggests that “housing and retaining talent are priorities” with point of view of the Brussels chief executive.

“I want you to meet this particular prime minister. It’s not the cute billboard grandpa who hugs old people and says, “All together and no one will be left behind.” No, this is a cold, calculating person. a person who does not want to leave power just like that,” he shot.

In his speech, Ventura criticized António Costa’s “totally insane immigration laws” and praised the country’s historical past, namely the period of the Great Geographical Discoveries, refusing to “apologise”.

The party president urged the audience in front of him to defend the causes of the “future” such as the environment, digitalization or “dispute over resources”, but without “losing the identity of this story that this country has created.”

“Don’t be afraid to be different,” he urged, insisting that young people should not be afraid to defend the interests of the party, including life imprisonment.

Elsewhere in his speech, Ventura mentioned the possibility that Chega’s candidacy in the Madeira regional legislative elections in September could be in jeopardy because of the problems. After the Judicial Court of Comarca Madeira has recognized the candidacy, the Constitutional Court has the final say.

“Never before, since the founding of our democracy, has the party been so worried and at such risk,” he lamented.

Ventura concluded his speech by stating that the next year will be “rich and difficult” and called for the party to unite “without power games, without behind-the-scenes and ulterior motives.”

A few minutes earlier, the deputy and coordinator of the structure representing the youth, Rita Matias, called on the youth to be critical of the ideas of the party.

“We want a European political project not to deny all of our past, which would not force us to apologize for what our history is,” he defended.

III Chega Summer Political Academy will last until Sunday and will hold several debates, lectures, seminars and even a simulation of the plenary session of the European Parliament.
