Jeronimo de Sousa notes in Avanta that the Constitution is the basis for solving problems.

Former PKP Secretary General Jeronimo de Sousa said on Saturday that the Constitution is the basis for solving problems from housing to the environment, and noted that its defense is a battle for all democrats and patriots.

“In the current context of exacerbating injustice and inequality, accelerating the degradation of the living conditions of workers and the people, protecting and affirming the values of April, the requirement to comply with the Constitution is a battle for the present and future of the people and country,” he said.

The former leader of the PKP intervened in the debate on “Respect and Enforce the Constitution” that took place this Saturday evening, the second day of the Festa do Avante!. This group also included deputy Alma Rivera and former parliamentary leader João Oliveira.

“In the struggle of workers, pensioners or young people, in the struggle for health care, education or social protection, in response to problems of housing, the environment or transport, we find in the Constitution a reference to the necessary solutions. build and materialize,” he defended.

Jeronimo de Souza noted that “not containing ready-made answers to every one of the problems of the people and the country, the Constitution indicates the direction of the path to empower and mobilize so that these answers are found through alternative politics.” it gives them support.”

“If the rights enshrined in the Constitution are respected and respected, if the duties incumbent on the state are fully realized, if the design and principles underlying the constitutional text guide the political choices of governments, Portugal will become a more just and developed country. In the country, people will live in much better conditions, and our collective future will certainly have more hope and confidence,” he said.

The member-deputy stressed that the defense of the Basic Law “cannot be a struggle only for communists”, but also “for democrats and patriots”.

“Everything negative can be defeated, and everything positive can be approved, if the PS is able to protect the Constitution, which it approved in 1976,” he stressed, calling for “to find rapprochement.”

Jeronimo believed that the Constitution was already “facing cyclical offensives, either because of the seven amendments” it had undergone “or because of actions by right-wing governments and PS that were contrary to constitutional practice.”

In the same group, MP Alma Rivera noted that the Basic Law could be “deepened to guarantee more than what today follows from its text”.

The party’s coordinator in the future constitutional review commission also believed that “enemies of the Constitution have always existed, always been there”, but “have different representatives and different ways of expressing themselves”, some of which are “quite trauliteiros”. .

Former PKP parliamentary leader João Oliveira urged the Portuguese to use the Constitution as “a tool in the struggle to solve their problems” and not “lock it in a safe”, believing that “it continues to serve as a defense against those who want to jeopardize the achieved rights.”

“We must take to the streets with the Constitution in our hands and declare that we want our rights to be realized,” he challenged.

A member of the Political Commission of the Communist Central Committee also argued that “what remained in the text was not the enlightened work of 250 deputies, it was the result of the concrete actions of the Portuguese people and the achievements made during the revolution.”
