The Health Regulatory Authority (ERS) has set up an assessment process that allows for a “full clarification” of the case of an elderly man who died at the door of a health facility in Vila Poca de Aguiar, it was announced this Thursday.
“ERS, having learned about the situation reported at the Pedras Salgadas Medical Center, has decided, within its legal competence, to establish an assessment process that will fully clarify this situation,” said the person interviewed by Lusa. agency.
An 89-year-old man fell ill in the village of Sutelinho do Monte, in the municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Vila Real district, and his family sought medical attention, according to news published on Tuesday by SIC TV. the nearest medical facility in Pedras Salgadas, where they were told to call the emergency number 112 and the victim was allegedly not given any assistance.
On the same day, Lusa contacted representatives of the Northern Regional Health Authority (ARS), who said that it had instructed the executive director of the Alto Tamega y Barroso Medical Centers Group (ACES) to immediately launch an investigation in order to be able to assess what happened, at the same time he expressed his “most sincere condolences” to the elderly man’s family.
The incident occurred at 3:00 pm on Friday, and according to Vila Pouca de Aguiar fire chief Hugo Silva, the alert was sent to the corporation through the Patient Emergency Center (CODU), and an ambulance was called to help. and an emergency motorcycle arriving on the scene after “three to four minutes”.
An official told Lusa that an 89-year-old man was in a private car at the door of a medical facility with cardiopulmonary arrest.
Hugo Silva reported that firefighters immediately began basic life support maneuvers using an automatic external defibrillator and that a few minutes later, an ambulance and resuscitation medical vehicle (VMER) team from Chávez also arrived on the scene, which, in turn, initiated advanced maneuvers for life support.
“They had an hour and a half to maneuver, but then the VMER brigade pronounced death on the spot,” he said.
