Twelve areas of mainland Portugal are under a yellow warning for bad weather this Sunday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). “Showers, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms,” are forecast.
The yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, applies to Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarem, Lisbon, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Portalegre from 12:00 this Sunday until 15:00 . on Monday morning, although for some of these areas the alert ends at 9pm this Sunday, according to the IPMA.
Today’s weather forecast calls for periods of very cloudy weather; “showers, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunder, beginning in the afternoon”; Light to moderate winds (up to 25 kilometers per hour) prevailing in the southern quadrant, changing in the western quadrant in the afternoon; fog or morning mist in some places; and “a slight decrease in minimum temperature.”
A yellow warning was issued for all 18 areas of mainland Portugal from 1pm to 6pm on Saturday due to the forecast of thunderstorms and downpours, sometimes heavy and sometimes hail.
A yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued by the IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
