This Sunday, the Prime Minister said that in Portugal there is nothing more than political chaos, which is normal for a democracy, and said that the country is characterized by the presence of a broad consensus and sovereign bodies that function regularly.
This is the image António Costa gave to journalists in Santiago de Chile after he was asked whether Portugal could be heading towards political radicalization, as is happening in some South American countries.
“In Portugal I do not sense any radicalism and the country is characterized by being one of the most stable and having the broadest political consensus,” said the leader of the Portuguese executive at the end of a lunch with national businessmen. who invests in Chile.
At this point, António Costa emphasized that “it is one thing when there is a moment of greater political anger.”
“But we have not gone beyond political contempt, and that is very healthy. I think that at the moment in Europe there should only be two countries with an absolute majority, and in the rest there is huge political fragmentation,” he said.
According to the Prime Minister, in Portugal, even without an absolute majority, at least since 2011 we have practically lived in a situation of “great stability”.
“Last year there was a dissolution of parliament, but the Portuguese, with their insurmountable common sense, also quickly solved this problem,” he said.
When asked if he considered political antics normal, Antonio Costa replied that they “are part of democracy.”
“Democracy means a way of organizing pluralism. Fortunately, sovereign bodies function in Portugal with great regularity and normality, which is very healthy,” he said.
