Commitment to the doctors’ strike in the Lisbon region is around 89% in hospital consultations and 95% in health centers.

Participation in the doctors’ strike in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley region ranges from 89% in hospitals, 90% in operating rooms and 95% in health centers, according to the union that called for the strike.

The figures were provided by the Independent Doctors’ Union (SIM) in an update on the strike, which will take place this Wednesday and Thursday at 12.30pm.

As an example, SIM points to the Beatrice Angelo Hospital (Lures), where 80% in surgery and 100% in endocrinology, rheumatology and ophthalmology joined the strike. In internal medicine these figures reach 90%.

At the Lures Health Centers Group (ACES) in Odivelas, adherence rates reach 90% and some departments are 100% closed.

SIM also cites ACES Arrábida as an example with 90% adherence. In this ACES, the commitment was complete in Castelo’s Division of Family Health (USF).

At San Francisco Xavier Hospital, compliance was 100% in both the anesthesia room and operating room.

Other examples given by SIM are the Setúbal Hospital (100% in the operating room) and García de Orta (90% in the operating room and 95% in consultations).

At Barreiro Hospital, SIM indicates 100% compliance in operating rooms and 85% in consultations.

At the Portuguese Institute of Oncology, adherence was complete in clinical pathology and pathological anatomy, while in non-urgent consultations it reached 75% and in radiology 90%.

SIM also emphasizes that minimal services, “very extensive in the areas of surgery and cancer treatment,” were provided.

The strike, which took place on Wednesday and Thursday, is the first of two regional strikes called by SIM for the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley. The next one is scheduled for September 27 and 28.

Speaking to Lusa early on Wednesday morning, the SIM secretary-general recalled that at the last negotiation meeting on Tuesday, the government “did not exceed the proposed 3.1% wage increase”, stressing that “there has been a 22% loss of wages over the last 10 years” .

“The taxes we pay will oblige the government to invest in the social network, which is not happening,” said the person in charge, emphasizing: “Depending on the government’s response to the questions we have raised, we hope for a very expressive response.” “.

On Tuesday, SIM announced a new extension until October 22 of the doctors’ overtime strike, which began on July 24 and will end on September 22.

When asked by Lusa about the possibility of agreeing on SIM card forms of struggle with the National Federation of Doctors (Fnam), which on Tuesday announced a new strike on October 17 and 18, Roque da Cunha replied: “We sat at joint tables and on Monday we made a proposal for a joint summit with Fnam. This proposal has already been responded to, but no date has been set yet.”
