Sata: Five flights canceled due to impact of Hurricane Margot

The bad weather experienced in the Azores due to the influence of Hurricane Margot has led this Thursday morning to the cancellation of four flights of Sata Air Açores and one flight of Azores Airlines.

Based on the consultation carried out by Lusa on the official page of Vinci airports and other airports in the region, it turned out that the Horta-Ponta Delgada flight (SP441) was canceled, the same happened with the Horta-Lajes (SP631) and Lajes flights. -Orta (SP630).

The Horta-Ponta Delgada flight (SP441) and the Horta-Lisbon flight (S4150) scheduled for this morning were also cancelled.

Sata Air Açores provides air service between the nine islands of the Azores, while Azores Airlines operates flights outside the region.

This morning, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere updated meteorological warnings for rain in the archipelago, indicating that the western group (Flores and Corvo islands) is under an orange warning until 18:00 local time (19:00 in Lisbon), and then turns yellow until until 06:00 on Friday.

The central group (Terceira, Graciosa, Sao Jorge, Faial and Pico) was under an orange warning until 12:00, but is now at a yellow level until 15:00 Friday.

Until this time, a yellow warning is in effect for the eastern group formed by San Miguel and Santa Maria.

Warnings in the archipelago are for “localized heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder” due to the effects of Hurricane Margo, which passed about 900 kilometers west of Flores this morning.

The tropical cyclone is not expected to cross the region, but will continue to cause “bands of rain” to approach, IPMA explains.

Margo is losing intensity as the tropical storm is expected to pass by late Thursday afternoon.

A yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities due to weather conditions.

Orange color (middle of the scale) indicates a moderate to high risk weather situation.

Lusa has asked Sata’s communications office for a list of flights and passengers affected by the bad weather, but has yet to receive a response.
