Some 13,000 workers at three General Motors (GM), Ford and Stellantis assembly plants in the US went on strike this morning over a lack of consensus on a new collective labor agreement.
For the first time, Detroit’s “Big Three” plants, as the three auto industry companies are known, went on strike at the same time.
United Auto Workers President Shawn Fein announced at 11 pm Thursday (3 a.m. this Friday in Lisbon) that workers at GM’s Wentzville, Mo., assembly plant, the Stellantis plant in Toledo, Ohio, and the Ford plant in Wayne, Michigan will be the first to go on strike.
