Annual inflation in the eurozone slowed to 5.2% in August

The eurozone’s annual inflation rate slowed to 5.2% in August, down from 5.3% in July, while the European Union (EU) slowed to 5.9%, down from 6.1% in July, according to a Eurostat report released on Tuesday. July).

According to the EU statistics office, in August 2022 the average inflation rate in the 20 countries of the single currency was 9.1%, and in the 27 member states as a whole – 10.1%.

In the eurozone, core inflation (“core”), which excludes the most volatile aggregates such as energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, was 5.3%, a slowdown from July’s 5.5% but up one point than last year. -annual rate (4.3%).

The annual energy inflation rate, in turn, was -3.3% in the eurozone, compared to -6.6% in July and 38.6% in August 2022.

In the EU, the highest inflation rates, as measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP, which allows comparisons between countries), were recorded in Hungary (14.2%), the Czech Republic (10.1%) and Slovakia (9.6%). ).

In Portugal, the HIPC inflation rate was recorded in August at 5.3%, up from 4.3% in July and 9.3% in August 2022.
