A policeman was killed and others were injured in Hungary on Wednesday evening after a man exploded a gas cylinder before his death, Hungarian media reported.

Police and firefighters did not immediately confirm the circumstances of the tragedy, which occurred in the town of Esztergom, about 40 kilometers north of Budapest, on the border with Slovakia, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.

Anti-terrorism agents were dispatched to the home of a man who had made a bomb threat, according to news site Index.

According to preliminary data, this man set fire to his house and exploded a gas cylinder.

His body was found among the rubble; details of his identity have not been released.

Among other police officers present, at least six were injured, three of them seriously, according to Hungarian media.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Hungarian President Katalin Nowak sent a telegram of condolences to the family of the deceased agent through a message published on the social network Facebook.
