Due to lack of money, some people have fled their homes and are living in tents in Quinta dos Ingleses, opposite Carcavelos beach. They work, but due to the rising cost of living, they cannot afford the cost of rent. This happened to Nelson Ferreira, who lived in the area for about two years.
“The situation is very difficult. The rent is too high. What we get is not enough for everything,” he says.
TO CM He says he earns minimum wage and is unable to pay rent. Even living in a tent, he faces difficulties and is forced to turn to associations for help in matters of food and hygiene. “This is how I save myself a little,” he says.
Nelson started by pitching a tent on the beach and stayed there for three months. Then he decided to go to Quinta dos Ingleses. He is now the oldest resident.
Nine people are currently living in Quinta dos Ingleses in the same conditions as Nelson.
