Barcelona were beaten in Mallorca on Tuesday, conceding a 2-2 draw in the seventh round of the Spanish Football League, which could cost them the lead, temporarily isolated, due to the extra game being played.
After their second league draw, the Catalans now lead with 17 points, one more than Girona, who visit Villarreal on Wednesday, and two more than Real Madrid, who host Las Palmas.
With Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo back in the starting XI, Porto’s Champions League opponents on 4 October at the Dragao were unable to unbalance either the team or individual players.
In the eighth minute, goalkeeper Ter Stegen made a very risky pass, which was eventually intercepted by Mallorca on the edge of the penalty area. Antonio Sanchez crossed the ball twice, and the second time Kosovo’s Vedat Muriqi scored the first goal.
The Catalans failed to equalize but did so in the 41st minute when left-footed Raphinha fired home a winner from the edge of the area.
With the score 45+3, after a long pass from goalkeeper Vedat Muriqi headed the ball to Abdon Prats, who quickly put the Islanders back in front.
Barcelona returned to the second half without the spirit of those wanting to turn the result around, registering just one shot on the post from Joao Felix in the 55th minute.
At 65, the Portuguese striker left for young prodigy Lamine Yamal, who shook up the game, even receiving a penalty that was overturned by VAR.
It was the 16-year-old who initiated the equalizer, completed by Fermin after a beautiful attacking combination that was still not enough to complete the turnaround.
Mallorca are only 15th with six points.
Hours earlier, Sevilla had claimed their second win of the season before thrashing bottom side Almeria 5-1, who have just two points against the seven Andalusians who moved up into the quartet tied for 12th.
