The government has proposed raising salaries for public administration workers by around 52 euros, or 2%, in 2024, thus maintaining the values stipulated in the agreement signed a year ago, the Common Front said on Wednesday.
“The proposal that the government is putting forward for discussion today stems from an agreement, which we called impoverishment, signed with two other trade union structures. [da UGT] and what is happening is a continuation of this path of impoverishment,” said Sebastian Santana, leader of the General Front of Civil Service Unions, following a meeting with Presidential Minister Mariana Vieira da Silva in Lisbon.
He said the government had proposed a wage increase equivalent to about 52 euros “for most workers” or 2%, as stipulated in a multi-year agreement signed in October between the government and the UGT trade union structures.
“In a context where everyone knows the huge increase in the cost of living in areas such as housing, which are not even included in inflation, and because of the inflation recorded, this value falls far short of the need to restore purchasing power,” defended Sebastian Santana.
The United Front leader said that at the meeting with Minister Mariana Vieira da Silva and Secretary of State for Public Administration Ines Ramirez, “there were a number of other proposals that, although not formalized, are issues that will be discussed.” at the next meeting, which was scheduled for October 4 and which will relate to overtime and per diem.”
As for updating the food subsidy, “the government has not mentioned it,” Sebastian Santana said.
The union leader noted that this is the government’s “initial proposal” and if it is supported during discussions with trade unions, it will receive an appropriate response from workers.
“The path we defend is always the same: we have no rights won without a fight. If the government forces workers to fight for higher wages, the workers will be here to do it,” Sebastian Santana warned.
Negotiations began today between the government and trade unions on public administration wages for 2024, with trade union structures demanding higher increases than those stipulated in the agreement signed a year ago.
In October last year, an agreement was signed between the trade union structures of the UGT, the Federation of Civil Service Unions (Fesap) and the State Technical Staff Trade Union (STE), providing for an annual increase of approximately 52 euros until 2026, or a minimum of 52 euros. 2% per year.
The Common Front, associated with the CGTU, did not sign an agreement with the government in October and will present its proposal today after a union summit, followed by a meeting in front of the President’s Ministry with a trip to the official Prime Minister. residence of António Costa to hand over the document to the government.
Fesap’s proposal for 2024 is for a 6% wage increase to a minimum of €80 per worker, while STE is calling for a rise of more than 5% next year.
Both UGT structures propose to increase the food subsidy from the current six euros to 7.50 euros per day and reduce the discounts for ADSE.
