PJ is involved in an operation to seize a ton of cocaine on the high seas.

Judicial police were involved in an international operation that allowed the Spanish National Police to seize a ton of cocaine being transported on a fishing boat about 600 miles from Cape Verde, Spanish authorities said this Friday. The investigation and subsequent operation also involved the North American agency DEA (drug trafficking agency), the Navy and Spanish customs. Six crew members of the vessel, which was sailing without a flag and believed to be heading to Spain, were arrested.

“The investigation is the result of existing international channels to combat drug trafficking,” Spanish police say. He describes receiving information from the DEA warning of a criminal organization that was looking to move “large quantities of cocaine from one ship to another on the high seas.” This information coincided with information already in the possession of the National Drug Trafficking Unit of the Judicial Police, and a joint effort began to determine the exact location of the cocaine – and the subsequent approach to the boat commanded by the patrol. The ship and the 40 bales of cocaine carried on the stern deck were transported to the port of Arrecife on the island of Lanzarote. The six detainees, two of them Albanians and the rest Guineans, will appear before a judge.
