‘No one is immune’: bedbug infestation in Paris prompts warning

An increase in the number of bedbugs in Paris (France) is alarming authorities, who are looking for measures to “safety and protect” the population.

“We must understand that no one is immune,” warns Paris city council vice-president Emmanuel Grégoire, acknowledging that the plague has “spread” throughout the city.

The situation is especially serious with public transport, namely trains, but it also passes through places such as cinemas.

“Obviously there are risk factors, but in reality we can pick up bedbugs anywhere and bring them home,” Emmanuel Grégoire said in a statement to LCI television.

Emmanuel also asks the government to help the population in the fight against bedbugs, given that fighting these pests “costs an average of 866 euros per person.”

In Paris, all residents with social rights pay four euros a year for free bed bug treatment, according to the city council, which reminds us that this department is free to contact and intervene.
