The GNR believes that “it remains important to warn older people about self-protection procedures in situations of violence, fraud, scams and domestic theft, as well as to prevent risky drinking behavior and combat social isolation, identify informal carers, and teaching adults how to use the Internet.”
In Operation Older People’s Census 2022, GNR identified 44,511 older people who live alone and are isolated or vulnerable due to a physical, mental or other condition that could compromise their safety.
The most vulnerable situations were reported by the GNR to the competent authorities, especially social support, to monitor them in the future.
Vila Real was the area where the highest number of older people were observed with 5,353 people, followed by Guarda with 5,243 people, Viseu with 3,586 people, Faro with 3,527 people, Bragança with 3,411 people and Beja with 3,346 people.
There were 1,134 older people identified in Lisbon and 875 in Porto, with the area having the lowest number of older people identified.
