The informal meeting of the Arraiolos group began this Friday morning in Porto without the presence of the German President. Frank-Walter Steinmeier is received this Friday in the United States of America by Joe Biden.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa received this Friday morning at the Palácio do Freixo the remaining 12 non-executive presidents from European countries. The war in Ukraine, migration and the current political, social and economic state of Europe are just some of the topics discussed at the closed meeting taking place at this time.
Contrary to expectations, the German President is not present as he will be with Joe Biden this Friday. According to the White House, the two presidents will “reaffirm the strong ties between the United States and Germany, including close coordination as NATO allies on a number of important issues, such as support for democratic values and a commitment to supporting Ukraine in its defense against invasion by Russia.”
Meanwhile, the meeting of the Arraiolos Group continues with another afternoon meeting open to delegations from the countries present and a final dinner at the Palacio da Bolsa.
