A man accused of murdering and hiding the body of businessman Mario Luis Oliveira, who has been missing for two months, will be held in pre-trial detention.
The defendant, who was arrested on Wednesday after the discovery of the body, attended the first judicial interrogation this Friday, where the most serious measure of coercion was applied to him.
Giovani Gomes, a 36-year-old Brazilian national, was charged with qualified murder and desecration of a corpse. The prosecuting judge decided to apply a preventive measure due to the risk of flight, the risk of continuing criminal activity, and the risk of failure of the investigation.
Mario Luis Oliveira, 57, disappeared without a trace on August 19. He was last seen at Café Nicola, where he is a partner, in Coimbra at around ten in the morning. The cell phone was switched off from day one, and authorities always doubted the disappearance was voluntary. The very next day, a family member alerted authorities.
ABOUT CM You know that the body was found in a hole behind the house of the main suspect in Miranda do Corvo, which was the target of the searches.
