Two Brazilian evangelical pastors have been convicted in Lisbon of a scheme that smuggled at least 150 immigrants into Portugal over a seven-year period.
Jose Flores and Oscar Goncalves are among 23 defendants and 16 companies accused of human trafficking and illegal labor recruitment. The scheme involved the creation of companies – 400 per process – to attract workers. According to the resolution according to which CM Having access, the network charged from 375 to 5 thousand euros for the creation of companies and 500 euros per person for renting premises and regularization. Jose Flores was sentenced to 4 years and 9 months in prison, and Oscar Goncalves was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison. Both sentences were suspended. The remaining defendants received lighter sentences. This church is being investigated abroad.
The Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) and the SP have already opened several identical investigations against evangelical churches. The investigation that led to the arrest of three Assemblies of God pastors in 2020 is still ongoing.
