On Madeira’s north coast, an orange warning for “continued very high maximum temperatures” will remain in effect until 11pm on Sunday, before changing to a yellow warning until 9pm on Monday, according to the IPMA.
Also on the south coast of Madeira, an orange warning for hot weather will be in effect until 23:00 Sunday, and then change to yellow until 21:00 Monday, the same applies to Porto Santo.
In mountainous regions, a yellow warning is in effect until 23:00 Sunday due to continued high maximum temperatures.
An orange warning (second highest) is issued by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere when there is a moderate to high risk meteorological situation, and a yellow warning is issued when there is a risk for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
Four fires remain active this Saturday on Madeira’s western and northern coasts, two of which broke out overnight but do not threaten homes, the regional government said, noting that 100 fighters are involved in the extinguishing efforts.
“At the moment we are, in our opinion, in the final stages of this fire outbreak because it is likely that the temperature will change the day after tomorrow, but we still have four active fronts,” the Madeira president said. executive director Miguel Albuquerque during a visit to the municipality of Calheta, located in the far west of the island, one of the hardest hit by the fires.

The Madeira government declared a fire emergency on Thursday and activated the Regional Civil Protection Emergency Plan for five days until Monday.
The Madeira archipelago has been under an orange weather warning since last week due to persistent high temperatures exceeding 30 degrees per day.
