The Palace of Versailles in France was evacuated this Saturday due to a bomb threat, police sources told AFP.
The bomb threat was made through an anonymous post on the website moncommissariat.fr, a source close to the matter told AFP.
The same source said the monument will not open this Saturday.
Also this Saturday, the Louvre in Paris was evacuated and remained closed “for security reasons.”
“Dear visitors, for security reasons the Louvre is closed today, October 14th. Those who have booked a ticket will be able to request a refund. Thank you for your understanding,” the museum wrote on its X (formerly Twitter) account.
The evacuation took place late in the morning, after a normal day in which the world’s most visited museum opened its doors at 9am.
According to a police source quoted by French television TF1/LCI, the evacuation is in response to “reports of a bomb threat.”
French authorities raised the alert level on Friday following a “terrorist attack” at a secondary school in Arras, Pas-de-Calais, in which a teacher was stabbed to death and two others were injured after a former student of Chechen origin entered the school armed with a knife.
