The Navy coordinates the rescue of patients seven kilometers from Ponta Delgada

The Navy, together with the Emergency Patient Orientation Center – Maritimes (CODU-MAR), coordinated a medical rescue operation south of Ponta Delgada, in the Azores, of a woman with “possible appendicitis,” announced this Saturday. .

According to the Navy statement, the action was coordinated through the Ponta Delgada Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Delgada) from 10:30 a.m. local time (11:30 a.m. in Lisbon) this Saturday, and the woman, a citizen of Saint Lucia, was on on board the Dutch-flagged passenger ship PS ROTTERDAM, which sailed approximately 4 nautical miles, equivalent to approximately 7 kilometers, south of Ponta Delgada, on the island of São Miguel.

“The 34-year-old crew member presented with a clinical picture of an acute abdomen, possible appendicitis, and CODU-MAR determined emergency treatment,” the press release said.

The rescue was carried out by a vessel of the National Maritime Administration, which took the patient to the Ponta Delgada marina on the island of São Miguel early this Saturday morning.

The Navy also adds that the patient was later transferred to a local hospital unit.

MRCC Delgada, the National Maritime Administration, CODU-MAR and the Azores Regional Civil Protection Service took part in this operation.
