Escaped prisoner caught driving stolen car near border

A prisoner who escaped from a prison in the north of the country for four months was captured by the Spanish National Police in Fuentes de Oñoro, near the Vilar-Formoso border, Almeida. He was driving a stolen car and had no documents.

The inmate took advantage of a dangerous escape from prison in July to avoid returning to prison. However, last Wednesday the man, in his 40s, was detained by Spanish police during a routine check. The police caught the fugitive driving a car that turned out to be stolen. It also turned out that he did not have a driver’s license.

The man was taken to the Rodrigo Municipal Court and held in custody until he was tried for the crimes he committed in Spain. After this he will be extradited.
