An Egyptian AMC Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Palma de Mallorca airport on Monday afternoon after a Portuguese passenger died on board, according to a Spanish newspaper. Balearic Chronicles.
The flight was en route from the Egyptian city of Luxor and was heading to Madrid when a 67-year-old Portuguese man suddenly died at 13:00 (12:00 Lisbon time) near Mallorca.
Having received a warning from the crew, the pilot notified the control tower at Palma de Mallorca airport about the need to make an emergency landing at the city airfield.
After landing, the crew and the Spanish Civil Guard removed all passengers from the plane and took them to the airport terminal.
The man’s body was transported by a funeral company that arrived at the scene.
According to Crónica Balear, passengers on the flight said they were “trapped” in the terminal for nearly four hours and described “poor conditions” while they waited to board the plane, and also said they were not provided with water.
After cleaning, the plane took off towards Madrid at around 17:00 (16:00 in Lisbon).
The Spanish Civil Guard is now awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death of the 67-year-old man.
