Inflation slows in September to 4.3% in the eurozone and 4.9% in the European Union.

The annual inflation rate in the eurozone slowed to 4.3% in September and in the European Union to 4.9%, compared with 5.2% and 5.9% in August, Eurostat said on Wednesday.

In September 2022, inflation in the single currency countries was recorded at 9.9%, and in the 27 member states as a whole – 10.9%.

Core inflation in the eurozone – which excludes the most volatile aggregates such as energy, food, alcohol and tobacco – was 4.5% in September, down from 5.3% in August.

Among member states, the lowest inflation rates, as measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), which allows for comparisons, were observed in the Netherlands (-0.3%), Denmark (0.6%) and Belgium (0.7%). ).

The highest, in turn, were recorded in Hungary (12.2%), Romania (9.2%) and Slovakia (9.0%).

In Portugal, the rate as measured by HIPC fell to 4.8% from 5.3% in August.

Compared to August, annual inflation fell in September in 21 Member States, remained stable in one and rose in another five.
