“This is a smart investment that will pay dividends for American security for generations,” Joe Biden said in a rare speech from the White House Oval Office that was broadcast live on the nation’s major television networks.
In a prime-time speech in which he alternated wars involving Ukraine and Israel, Biden said that “American leadership is what holds the world together” and the alliances he has with other countries keep Americans “secure in America.”
