The Home Secretary announced on Wednesday that 300 non-police officers would be hired into the Public Security Police, a move that would put more officers on the streets.
At the inauguration ceremony of the commander of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP, Fiaíns Fernandez, which will take place at the Ministry of Internal Administration, José Luis Carneiro said that the Minister of Finance has already agreed to open a procedure for the dismissal of 300 civil servants of the PSP.
A government official said the hires would “free up police resources” and “strengthen policing, proximity and visibility as a policy priority.”
The minister also said that 580 new police officers “who are already working” joined the PSP in October and that another agent training course involving 500 officers would begin in November.
