Tax and Customs (AT) has warned of a new fraudulent email about a purported invoice with “inaccuracies” and featuring a link that tax authorities warn should not be accessed under any circumstances.
“Tax and Customs is aware that some taxpayers are receiving emails purporting to be from AT, with a link to a possible invoice, asking them to click on a link,” said a statement published on the Financial Portal.
As in previous cases, AT stresses that “these messages are false and should be ignored” as their purpose is to “convince the recipient to access malicious pages by clicking on the links offered”, warning that taxpayers “in the event that anyone then ” must perform this operation.
Among the messages that appear in this new scam email – and which are even signed with the name of the supposed Director of Finance – is one that asks the taxpayer to click on the aforementioned malicious link to check for “discrepancies” in the invoice that have been “corrected” , and says that if he wants to “settle his situation with his local tax office,” he should “wait until he receives notice.”
This is the 10th scam email alert sent by AT since the start of this year.
