Six bars are closed to navigation due to rough seas

Six sea bars are closed to shipping and two are closed due to a forecast of heavy seas, prompting the Sea and Atmospheric Institute to place seven areas under an orange warning and three under a yellow warning.

According to the National Maritime Authority, bars in Caminha, Douro, Vila Praia de Ancora, Povoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde and Portinho da Ericeira are closed to navigation this Saturday, while bars in Aveiro and Figueira da Foch are restricted to shipping. vessels less than 35 meters in length.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed the areas of Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto and Viana do Castelo under an orange warning due to disturbances at sea (from 6:48 am this Saturday until 12:00 pm) . , due to north-westerly waves measuring five to six meters, reaching a maximum height of 10 meters.

For the areas of Beja, Faro (until 18:00 Saturday), Setubal (until 00:00 Sunday), Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto and Viana do Castelo (from 12:00 this Saturday until 6:00 Sunday) yellow warnings were issued. rough seas caused by north-westerly waves of four to five meters.

The areas of Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, Braga, Porto and Aveiro are also under an orange warning due to heavy rain forecast until 3:00 am Sunday.

A yellow warning was also issued for the areas of Braganca, Viseu and Coimbra due to the forecast of rain, sometimes heavy and prolonged.

An orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation, and a yellow warning when there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.”

On Friday, the IPMA issued a statement warning of the approaching Depression Celine, associated with a cold frontal surface, which will affect mainland Portugal starting this Saturday afternoon, with persistent rainfall, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms, mainly in Minho and the Douro Litoral.

Depression Celine, which “should be centered west of the British Isles” at 1pm Saturday, will shape the cold frontal weather across the Portuguese mainland from the afternoon onwards, IPMA said.
