The 61-year-old man suspected of raping a 4-year-old girl in Baixa da Baneira, municipality of Moita, during a birthday celebration, was in pre-trial detention, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General of the District of Lisbon (PGDL).
According to a report published on the PGDL website, the man attended his first judicial interrogation on Wednesday while being subjected to mandatory preventive detention.
The suspect was one of the guests at a children’s birthday party, which took place on Saturday at a house in Baixa da Baneira, municipality of Moita, Setubal district.
On Monday, the Judicial Police (PJ) announced her arrest, saying that during the party, at a certain point, the victim’s father realized that the girl was missing, and “immediately all adults present” carried out “an investigation, the victim was found on the stairs leading into the building, next to the suspect.”
According to the SP, the suspect, who has a history of committing crimes of a similar nature, was located and apprehended beyond the crime with the help of the Setúbal Criminal Investigation Department.
The investigation is being led by the Moita prosecutor’s office, which has decided to declare the process a judicial secret with the assistance of the judicial police.
