Two castaways spotted 300 meters from the beach in Santa Cruz

Three bodies washed ashore on Formosa beach in Santa Cruz (Torres Vedras) this Friday morning after the sinking of a Danish-flagged sailboat that left the port of Peniche at 7 am.

The victims – two men and a woman, apparently foreigners, were thrown ashore without vests.

At the time the alarm was announced, at 11 a.m., strong seas were observed in the area, waves reaching six meters.

The sailboat sank about a thousand meters from the beach, and an Air Force helicopter is already there, conducting a search in case there are more victims. The Vigilante boat from the Salva Vidas station in Peniche is also on site.

The deaths have already been confirmed by INEM. The existence of five victims was acknowledged, but there was talk of duplication of warnings by members of the public.

In addition to the maritime police, firefighters from Torres Vedras are also on the scene.
