Motorcyclist, 50, killed in collision with car in Cantanhead

A man died this Saturday in a collision between a car and a motorcycle in the city of Fonte Herrada, the assistant commandant of the Cantanhede Volunteer Firefighters told the Lusa news agency.

“The collision of a passenger car with one passenger, the driver, and an electric motorcycle resulted in the death of the motorcycle driver,” said a man, apparently in his 50s, said Ricardo Cardoso.

According to him, “it is not known how the collision occurred, since they were both driving in the same direction, the car behind and the motorcycle in front, towards Campanas – Cantanhede, in Fonte Herrada, and the car hit the rear of the motorcycle.” “.

According to the Subregional Command of the Coimbra Region, the alarm occurred at 18:10, 15 operatives were on the scene, supported by seven vehicles of the Volunteer Firefighters of Cantanhede, the National Republican Guard (NRG) of Mira and Tochi, Cantanhede.

A basic life support ambulance (SIV) from Cantanhede in the Coimbra region and a first aid and resuscitation (VMER) ambulance with a doctor were also mobilized, who “pronounced death on the spot at 18:34.”

“The collision occurred on Municipal Road 335 (EM335), which is closed, but the GNR is redirecting traffic through the city until the cleanup operation is completed,” the deputy commandant said.
