This Monday, the executive director of the Chamber of Porto approved by a majority vote the information to the government and Metro do Porto that there will be no new construction in the city unless restrictions on current work areas are eliminated.
The recommendation presented by the mayor of Porto, independent Rui Moreira, was approved with the Bloc de Esquerda (BE) abstaining.
In its original version, the proposal intended to inform the government and Metro do Porto that the municipality would not issue “no licenses for any work on the Rubi Line that causes changes or new restrictions to existing methods of mobility and public transport until the work on the Line is completed Rose and BRT [‘metrobus’] completed or allowing normal mobility flows.”
However, the issue under consideration was changed on the recommendation of the PS, and the proposal now seeks to ensure that the government and the metro agree on the occupation of the public road with the municipality.
The Executive also confirmed that new construction work on public roads cannot be carried out “without reducing existing employment” and until “current restrictions on current areas of work are eliminated.”
The proposal also seeks to ask the government to assess the status of work in progress and conduct an audit of supervision and design changes, as well as safety measures implemented in various areas of work.
The mayor of Porto also informed council members that this Monday he will meet with the State Secretary of Urban Mobility, Jorge Delgado, and the administration of Metro do Porto.
At the last session of the Porto Municipal Assembly on October 31, Rui Moreira said that the municipality would not allow “more construction work” in the metro, referring to the Rubi line.
