The Prime Minister believes it would be “inexplicable” not to focus all energy on reforming the SNA

The Prime Minister believes it would be inexplicable not to focus all energy on the success of National Health Service (NHS) reform at a time when he has ensured there are more financial and human resources available.

In an opinion piece published this Monday in the newspaper Público, without direct reference to the dispute between medical unions and the government, António Costa responds to António Sarment, head of the service and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, who on Friday the fair also addressed the Prime Minister in an article with the question “what does he think about Social Networks.”

“Now that we have greater financial and human resources, it would be inexplicable if we did not focus our efforts on successfully reforming your organization. As always, with the active participation of health professionals whose careers and working conditions we take care to evaluate,” wrote António Costa after assessing the situation on social networks and the measures taken by his government.

The Head of Government admits that “with all the many problems affecting the SNA, the work of its specialists is truly impressive, an example of which is, in particular, the increase in the number of consultations and operations with values above 2015.

In an article in which he lists the changes taking place in the organization of the National Health Service, António Costa summarizes that “the revolution taking place in the SNS” is the result of a decision to “strengthen resources, organize capacity management, optimize the model of care”. care and qualification of premises and equipment.”

“I have no doubt that the guarantee of having a SNA with characteristics similar to those enshrined in our Constitution depends on the ability of everyone to mobilize in the reform of their organization,” he said.

Last week, Dr. António Sarmento asked a government official to publicly answer some questions that he believes “millions of Portuguese people would also like answered.”

The head of the service and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto asked several questions, namely what are the government’s plans so that, due to the impossibility of competition with the private sector, the social network is increasingly depleted of doctors and their institutions, devoid of scientific, educational, clinical and human qualities , knowing that millions of Portuguese have no alternative.”

“Have you finally realized that we are on the verge of a catastrophe that could lead to the death of many people,” the doctor asked in the article with six questions.
