According to REN, renewable energy production has broken records in recent days, with values exceeding demand for 149 hours between October 31 and November 6. There are no reports for 2023 yet, but last year renewable energy allowed domestic consumers to save up to €1,600 on average on their electricity bills. This is the conclusion of a Deloitte study for the Portuguese Association of Renewable Energy (Apren), presented on Tuesday. The study assessed the impact of electricity from renewable sources (water, solar and wind) on consumer bills, the electricity grid and the national economy between 2018 and 2022. During the period analyzed, “there was an increased use of renewable energy, even in dry years such as 2022,” says the document available on Apren’s official page, in a year when the share of renewable energy in total electricity production was close to zero. up to 62%. This resulted in savings of 800 to 1600 euros on consumer accounts, and from 6400 to 160 thousand euros on company accounts. In terms of GDP, the analysis concludes that the contribution of renewable energy sources “amounted on average to around €3.9 billion per year between 2018 and 2022”, with the same study estimating that in 2030 “direct contribution and indirect electricity production from renewable sources is approximately 17.2 billion euros.”
