This Thursday, the government approved in the Council of Ministers an increase in the national minimum wage to 820 euros from 1 January 2024.
“The Council of Ministers approved this Thursday a decree-law defining an increase in the national minimum wage to 820 euros from 1 January 2024, in line with the commitments made within the framework of the Strengthening the Medium-Term Agreement to improve incomes, wages and competitiveness,” the statement said government.
“This increase represents an increase of 60 euros per month and corresponds to the largest increase in the minimum guaranteed monthly salary that has ever been observed – 7.9%,” the executive emphasizes.
The update of the national minimum wage is set by government decree after consultation with the social partners.
The amount of 820 euros for next year is part of the strengthening of the agreement signed in October under the Social Agreement between the government and the social partners, with the exception of the CGTP and the CIP – Confederação Empresarial de Portugal, which were excluded.
