RTP workers resume seven-day strike from Saturday

The National Union of Telecommunications and Audiovisual Workers (Sintaw) has again issued a strike notice to RTP for another seven days starting Saturday, it said in a statement issued this Friday.

In the note, the union said it had “sent RTP a seven-day strike notice covering all workers” on a public channel “from 00:00 on November 11, 2023 until 11:59 p.m. on November 17, 2023.” “.

The statement states that “as approved at the workers’ plenary meeting on November 6, 2023, Sinttav management has officially submitted a note of conflict to the Ministry of Labor, pending the appointment of a meeting between the parties within the legal authority of DGERT.” [Direção-Geral do Emprego e das Relações de Trabalho]”.

Finally, the union reminds that “the strike remains in effect for an indefinite period of time for all types of work performed on public holidays, as well as for all overtime work.”

Sinttav promised to continue planning strikes until the RTP board of directors “sits down to the table,” having already staged several strikes.

On November 3, CGTP Secretary General Isabel Camarinha accused the RTP administration in Gaia (Porto) of committing illegal acts related to its refusal to hire precarious workers and defended an end to instability in the public company.

Moreover, the Secretary General of the CGTP stated that “the right to strike must be respected and, naturally, a public company has every obligation to respect and not to impose pressure or coercion prohibited by law when used by workers.”
